Epic Book
Restoring a lost legend.
![]() |
The epic legend of Pele and her sister, Hi‘iaka, hasn’t been published in a hundred years. Now, the translation project Awaiaulu offers a new Hawaiian-and-English edition, in versions that are as much about the art of book making as they are the art of story-telling. Only 300 copies of the two-volume Centennial Edition of Hi‘iakaikapoliopele will be produced, boxed, sewn and bound by hand by Gregor Campbell, covered in goatskin leather, numbered and signed, for $1,500. Other editions at $300 and $40 are also available.
